Weight Loss Products

An estimated $15-20 million worth of phony weight loss products like pills, fad diets and other weight loss aids are purchased in America, each year.

Such weight-loss products are either ineffective, or dangerous, or both.

In a study by FTC regulators, nearly 40 percent of advertisements for weight loss products contained deceptive claims like "You can lose 18 pounds in one week."

Here are some weight loss products that the FDA warns against.

Doubtful Weight Loss Products

  • Weight Loss Eyeglasses
No evidence these products assist weight loss.
  • Weight Loss Earrings
    No weight loss benefits.
  • Fat Blockers or Starch Blockers
No evidence these products help you to lose weight or fat.
  • Diet Patches
Not proven to be safe or effective.
  • Weight Loss Teas
Most weight lost is water only.
  • Weight Loss Chewing Gum
Not proven to cause weight loss.
  • Cider Vinegar
    Contains no weight loss properties.
  • Electrical Muscle Stimulators
The FDA has taken a number of these products off the market because they were promoted for weight loss and body toning.
  • Body Wraps
    Do not cause weight loss.

Weight Loss Pill Products

Prescription weight loss drugs are products which are tested and approved by the FDA. They are designed exclusively for the relief of severe obesity. Their effectiveness for weight loss requires them to be taken in combination with a calorie-controlled diet. Non-prescription diet supplements, like herbal diet pills, are weight loss products which are NOT regulated, controlled, tested or checked by anyone except the manufacturer. If such weight loss products claim to offer fast weight loss, magical fat-burning properties without the need for a calorie-controlled diet, watch your wallet!
