Lung Cancer and Vegetarian DietVegetarian populations show lower mortality rates from lung cancer compared with non-vegetarian populations. This is largely due to the fact that vegetarians tend to be non-smokers but dietary factors may also play a role. Research shows that a high level of fruit and vegetable consumption is protective against lung cancer. Other research suggests that smokers who also have a high intake of animal fat and animal protein have a greater risk of developing lung cancer than other smokers.
