Cellulite Reduction

Is Cellulite a Consequence of Excess Weight or Fat

Cellulite is a 'fat-condition', which only exists in areas of excess body fat. But you don't have to be overweight - any 'localised' excess of fat can cause cellulite, even though your total body weight or body fat percentage may be normal.

Causes of Cellulite - Faulty Connective Tissue

The current consensus is that cellulite occurs where there is excess fat AND where there is a break in the sub-cutaneous connective tissue. This allows fat cells to intrude into the dermis skin area. However, scientists still don't know what exactly causes cellulite, and in particular what causes cellulite to appear and disappear at certain times. They have studied fat metabolism and deposition and evidence is inconclusive. In particular, the influence of hormones on cellulite formation and development is still unclear.

Cellulite Reduction - Is There a Cure for Cellulite?

There is no cure for cellulite. There may be a cosmetic reduction in cellulite appearance from certain skin creams (e.g. aloe vera), but as yet there is no cellulite cure.

Cellulite Reduction - Can Cellulite be Cured Surgically?

No. Although offending fat cells may be surgically removed, no surgical operation (to date) can actually 'cure' cellulite. Wherever excess fat exists, which can intrude into the dermis due to irregularities in the connective tissue, cellulite will continue to form.

How to Reduce Cellulite

There are no easy ways to lose cellulite fat. Even reducing fat in the normal way by eating less and exercising more may not do the trick. Women with a relatively low body fat percentage can still retain cellulite fat. However, anecdotal evidence suggests that losing weight while maintaining a vigorous lower-body exercise routine will definitely help, as dancers and runners rarely seem to suffer from cellulite fat.
